Your time is valuable. More than ever, families struggle to find time to spend together. Cub Scouting helps support your family by providing ready-made opportunities for you to do things together. Cub Scouting exists to support your family and help enrich family time together.

Your child works with a group their own age. Through this sense of belonging, they build self-esteem and learn to get along with others. As a parent, be assured, the group your child joins will teach values consistent with good citizenship, character development, and physical fitness. The Boy Scouts of America has been weaving these lifetime values into fun and educational activities since 1910.

Cub Scouting teaches them to “do your best” and to be helpful to others. Scouting teaching family values and works to strengthen your relationship with your child. Scouting activities bring added value to the time you have with your child.

Cub Scouting is FUN!

The Cub Scout program takes place at two levels. Your child will be a part of a den, a small group of boys or girls in the same grade. Your child is also part of a Pack. Dens from all grade levels form a Cub Scout pack. Once a month all dens, and their families, meet together at the pack meeting where Scouts show off new skills and projects they worked on and are recognized for their accomplishments.

Pack Meetings

The Cub Scout Pack is made up of all the dens, which typically meet monthly at the Pack meeting, led by the Cubmaster. This is the climax of the monthly den meetings and activities. There are games, skits, songs, ceremonies presenting awards earned during that month. This is where families, not just parents, but siblings too, can see the achievement of their Cub Scout.

The Pack, including families, also participates in other special events throughout the year, including:

• Pinewood Derby – Cub Scouts build and race a model car!
• Blue and Gold Banquet – Cub Scouting’s annual birthday party!
• Camping – Both Overnight and Day Events Offered!
• Community Service Projects – Food drives, conservation projects and more.
• Field Trips and Special Outings – Great ways to learn more about the people and places in your community!

Successful dens and packs also rely on parent participation. Both the den and pack operate through volunteer leadership. Scouting volunteers exemplify Scouting’s principle of service to others. By volunteering, you are also giving your child the gift of your time. What could be more valuable?

Here are some ways you could volunteer:

• Den Leader: Leads the den at den and Pack meetings. Participates in the monthly pack committee meeting.
• Cubmaster: Works closely with the Pack committee to plan and carry our the annual program. Emcees the monthly Pack meeting.
• The Pack Committee: Meets monthly to plan and carry out the annual program. Pack committee members fill a variety of positions to support the annual program of the pack. Some Pack committee positions include: Committee chair, Advancement chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Pack Trainer. All parents are invited to participate on the Pack committee as parent helpers.
• Parent Helpers: Parent helpers assist with short-term projects in the den or Pack. This might be coordinating pack events, fund-raisers, service projects, field trips or outings.

Scouting is a very affordable activity for your family, especially when you consider the cost of a year-round Scouting program compared to a 2 or 3 month sporting activity. Scouting is a good investment in your child's future.

• Registration Fee - $90/year: This includes Annual Scouting Membership and Accident Insurance Fees.

• Pack Dues: Pack dues cover the annual operating expenses of a successful Cub Scout program. The amount varies by pack. Many packs cover ALL fees with successful Council fundraisers of Popcorn & Camp Cards and have NO pack dues.

• Books: Youth handbooks range from $13 to $24 and can be purchased at either of our Scout Shops.
• Other Costs: There are minimal fees for participation in activities at the Pack, District or Council level. You only pay these fees if you choose to participate.
